As the Asia-Pacific Fisheries Associate, Nicole Sarto works as a liaison between the growing EDF Oceans Asia-Pacific team and the Fishery Solutions Center. She supports the Asia-Pacific team with applied research; workshop planning & execution; and coordination tasks in several countries including Japan, Myanmar, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Prior to this position, Nicole was the 2015 Lorry Lokey Fellow with the Research & Development team of the Fishery Solution Center. In that role, she contributed to EDF Oceans Program’s global fishery reform efforts through applied research on several different topics, including understanding how economic, social, cultural and governance issues can prevent, or result from, the transition to more sustainable fisheries management strategies. Nicole holds a B.S. and M.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford University, with a concentration in coastal and marine sustainability science.
