Virtual Fisheries Academy
Of all the threats facing the oceans today, overfishing takes the greatest toll on sea life and people. Around 3 billion people worldwide rely on seafood as a key source of protein. However, nearly a third of the world’s assessed fisheries are now in deep trouble as a result of prolonged and widespread overfishing, and the situation is estimated to be even worse in fisheries that are unassessed. Without sustainable management, our fisheries face collapse and the world faces a potential food crisis.
A brighter future for our oceans depends on people who believe in a better future and are empowered to drive transformational change. The Virtual Fisheries Academy is intended to help you – whether you are a manager, fishermen, scientist, or other interested party – build key knowledge and skills to design fishery solutions that work for people and the environment. The Virtual Fisheries Academy currently offers interactive e-courses on the following three topics:
- Introduction to Fisheries Management
- Territorial Use Rights for Fishing
- Data-Limited Fisheries Management
The courses can be accessed anytime, anywhere, and for no cost. We invite you to take the courses and provide your feedback so we can continually adapt and improve our offerings.
