The Aquatic Blue Food Coalition is an initiative aimed at integrating sustainable aquatic or blue foods, such as fish, shellfish, aquatic plants, and algae, into global food systems. Their mission is to advocate for the recognition of these foods in global food discussions, mobilize support and funding for their integration, and drive actions that highlight their benefits for food and nutrition security, sustainability, and equity. Launched at the United Nations Ocean Conference in 2022, the Coalition includes a variety of members like governments, intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, academic institutions, and aquatic food producers. It focuses on raising the profile of aquatic foods in policy discussions, supporting countries in incorporating these foods into their food systems, and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals by addressing issues like hunger, malnutrition, and the environmental impact of food systems.
