What does it do?

Once completed, the scorecard provides a visual assessment of the performance of the fishery across various components. Using the outputs of this tool, fishery practitioners can recognize where to focus reform efforts in order to have the greatest impact and address underperforming components.

How does it work?

Developing a deep understanding about the condition of a fishery across bio-ecological, governance and management, markets and finance, and socio-cultural systems is important for determining challenges and opportunities for sustainable management. A comprehensive fishery diagnostic assesses the performance of these systems, each of which can have a significant impact on the design of sustainable fisheries management systems. The Diagnostic Scorecard is used to assess and characterize the condition of several key fishery components that are critical for successful and sustainable fisheries management.

How can it help you?

With this tool, fishery practitioners can:

  • Identify strengths and challenges to a fishery’s performance across key components.
  • Determine where knowledge gaps and uncertainty exists.
  • Review suggested tools and resources that can be used to gather more information and improve uncertainty.
  • Apply the scorecard iteratively as understanding improves and/or the implementation progresses to assess impact.
